Guided Tours. In the business for years, Alan Fogarty’s tours of Gqerha, Addo and more distant corners of the Eastern Cape come with heaps of valuable insight – plus a genuine passion for the region’s history, culture and natural treasures. Safari-focused tours to Addo are on offer but a real thrill for anyone wanting to take home unique memories is his “BIG SEVEN” itinerary, rated one of the best tours in the country. “It’s a wildlife experience that will knock your socks off,” Alan says of the land-and-sea safari package that couples a morning spent in Algoa Bay searching for whales, dolphins (there are around 22,000 in the sheltered bay) and other oceangoing creatures; and it truly is a mind-blowing marine excursion, during which you’ll also see fur seals and circumnavigate St. Croix Island with its large African penguin breeding colony and get to see a 220,000-strong gannet colony, the largest gannetry in the world. After the boat safari, the tour heads to Addo Elephant National Park for a more traditional game drive.

Other tours include an excursion to Cape Recife and Alan’s “Western Country Road” tour which takes in one end of the marvelous Baviaasnkloof, the surfing town of Jeffreys Bay and a couple of flower reserves (with lunch at Van Stadens Wildflower Reserve). While touring, you also learn about pre-colonial history and discover fascniating details about the Khoi Khoi, the region’s eraliest human residents. You can also sign up for shark cage diving which includes a boat safari to wild-and-wonderful Bird Island and St. Croix too.
