Alan Fogarty of Alan Tours is a totally informed and knowledgeable guide on everything from geology to history to botany and animal behaviour as well as a superb driver over rugged mountain roads.
It was an immense privilege to be taken through a programme especially designed for me to experience the wide variety of scenery, events and facilities which I was taken to. The flora of the Kouga mountains were breathtaking. He showed me the majesty of the mountains and where our wandering continents had moved, how farming techniques in certain areas had changed changed to restore the chemical composition of the soil to the previous ages where huge herds of, animals would migrate, the habits of the Khoi Khoi and San people, the tragic church commemorating the deaths of 500 people on Christmas Day., the Pierie mission station, forest and dam in the Amathole mountains. the beauty of Algoa Bay and its seabirds and islands, the cliffs of the Hogsback and the wonderfulAddo Elephant National Park.
The friendliness of all people we met and the quality of the accommodation and meals was extraordinary.
My whole time was a revelation of what South Africa is.
