A most enjoyable and informative day in Addo
My wife and I had the pleasure of being conducted through Addo Elephant Park by Alan Fogarty of Alan Tours on Monday 13 February 2017.
The whole experience was first rate, right from the moment we sought information on a day trip to the Park from his helpful partner, Angelika.
We were collected early in the morning in a comfortable Land-Cruiser, from our hotel in Port Elizabeth, and driven through the city, past the new Chinese-built port to the Elephant Park. On the way we, and the other two couples on the tour, were supplied with bottled water and given a most interesting commentary on the city and its recent development.
The highlight of course was our drive through various precincts in the Park, where Alan outlined how the Park had been first established and developed, and sought out a range of animals and explained with an infectious enthusiasm their modes of life and their habitats. We saw a number of families of elephants who seemed oblivious to our presence, antelopes including kudu, eland, red hartebeest and bushbok, and herds of zebra and buffalo. There were lots of warthog and a few aardvark as well as vervet monkeys, hyena and jackals and some ostrich. We saw dung beetles pushing balls of dried dung in which they laid an egg and learned why they had right of way on the internal roadways.
In mid-morning we had a welcome coffee break at a picnic site and, after the morning game drive, a very acceptable lunch at the Cattle Baron Grill in the Park.
We had a second game drive in the afternoon before being driven back to our hotels.
The game drive with Alan was much more personal than an excursion operated by a large Tour company. We were in the company of an expert and an enthusiast who was committed to conservation and sustainability. He was extremely personable and interested in meeting the expectations of his guests.
All in all, it was a privilege to share a day in Addo with Alan. I have no hesitation in recommending his tours to the Elephant Park to those wishing to maximise their experience in the Park.

Many thanks for the e-mail and the gallery of photographs taken on our enjoyable tour of Addo on 13 February. These are excellent and we will add them to our own photographs to form a record of a memorable day.
Please pass on our regards and thanks to Alan, and also our best wishes to you both for a continuing successful enterprise.
Thank you also for your always helpful and professional handling of our booking. It is always a pleasure to deal with a company that prides itself on meeting customers’ aspirations and on its service. Not many in the hospitality industry follow up with photographs after the event. They are much appreciated by us both.
