A perfect day trip

We did the Cape Recife/Lighthouse tour. The booking process was very easy and professional. The email correspondence was wonderful and the employees were so friendly!

Our guide Andrew was amazing! Our flight got in very early to Port Elizabeth. We squeezed in the tour before going to Shamwari. We were picked up at the airport promptly around 8:30 a.m. and were transported around in a nice SUV. They adjusted the times based on our needs!

The guide lives in Port Elizabeth and was really passionate about his city. He wanted us to leave having a good feel for the area even though the tour was only 4 hours. He showed us a lot of cool things that weren’t technically part of the tour. He was very accommodating with letting us customize.

We started by driving through Port Elizabeth and seeing some of the downtown and a few attractions. Then, we went to the penguin facility which was fun to see them up close. Bring money for a donation!

We went to the lighthouse which was very interesting. One thing to keep in mind is the stairs in the lighthouse are steep and treacherous so it may not be ideal for people with mobility issues or a risk of falling. However, we had a lot of fun.

We also went through the Cape Recife Nature Reserve. It’s good if you’re interested in plants. We were lucky and saw a leopard tortoise and a herd of zebra from a distance. He told us people don’t always see the zebra.

We had some extra time so he drove us along the Indian Ocean coast and we stopped at a few scenic outlooks. It was a trip highlight that was completely spontaneous.

The tour can end wherever you want. We chose to be dropped back off at the airport at 12:30 p.m. before we were supposed to be picked up at 1 p.m. to go to Shamwari.

I would highly recommend Alan Tours and would use again myself if ever in Port Elizabeth!
