Day 1, Night 1
Port Elizabeth or East London to the Wild Coast
Meet and greet by Alan Tours at your place of residence at 8:30 am or pick up from the airport and depart for the Wild Coast.
Traveling through picturesque countryside towards the coast we enter into the Old Transkei, an independent state under the apartheid government, characterized by rural communities, living in colourfully painted modern and traditional homes, often constructed from mud with thatched roofs.
We stop to fill up and a quick bite for lunch at the Kei River Bridge before continuing through extended rural communities alive with the bright colours of their traditional clothing and modest homes.
We head for the Mbashe River, on whose banks, at Qunu and Mveso our elder statesman, Nelson “Rolihlahla” Mandela, was born and raised.
The road gets rougher as the scenery becomes more attractive as we wind our way to our accommodation at the Wild Coast where we check in and enjoy our evening meal.
Overnight Wild Coast, hotel, lunch, dinner, bed and breakfast.
Day 2, Night 2
Wild Coast
Early wake up for coffee, tea and biscuits before depart through coastal dune forest alive with sub-tropical bird life and monkeys heading for the Mbashe river mouth where we board the canoes to cross this magnificent river estuary.
Take a guided walk with one of the local tribesmen on the deserted beach where the only foot prints to be seen are your own. Secluded rivers with the southern-most population of Crocodiles in Africa add an element of adventure while we keep our eyes open for Cape buffalo and Zebra and many birds and reptiles as they graze amongst the herds of Nguni cattle.
Reaching our destination, a point where the bleached bones of a great Humpback whale lie guarded by an ancient midden of discarded seashells left by the first nation, the Khoikhoi. Here we take a picnic lunch accompanied by the sounds of Seagulls while overlooking the remnants of an old shipwreck lying just below the waves, while seasonal Whales and Dolphins surface nearby.
We hike back along the beach to return to the hotel for a quiet rest before embarking on a short drive to the nearby Mbanyane point, a renowned and picturesque surf spot accessed through lovely forest glades.
Overnight Wild Coast, hotel, lunch, dinner, bed and breakfast.
Day 3, Night 3
Wild Coast
Wake up at your leisure before breakfast. After breakfast we drive into the reserve for a walk through tall canopy forests to a scared waterfall. Lunch at the hotel and rest of day at leisure, walking through shaded forests or on the beach, bird watching, horse riding or just simply relaxing around the swimming pool.
Overnight Wild Coast, hotel, lunch, dinner, bed and breakfast
