Day 1, night 1
Port Elizabeth to the Wild Coast
Meet and greet by Alan Tours at your place of residence and depart for the Wild Coast.
Traveling through picturesque countryside towards the coast we enter into the Old Transkei, an independent state under the apartheid government. Arriving in the area we take a quick lunch break, where we can try a traditional mielie cooked on the open fire or a more conventional light lunch at the Kei River bridge.
We continue into the traditional homeland of the AmaXhosa, where rural communities live in picturesque, brightly coloured houses and thatched huts spread out over the hills and valleys that characterise this landscape.
Getting closer to our destination we branch off the main road and enter a landscape dominated by evergreen tea plantation that cover the rolling hills before descending down through temperate forests to our coastal Lodge on the banks of a river estuary on the Wild Coast, where we check into our accommodation for a peaceful night in these pristine surroundings with the sound of the Indian Ocean to put you to sleep.
Overnight Wild Coast, Chalet/Cottage, lunch, dinner, bed and breakfast
Day 2, Night 2
Wild Coast

Day 3, Night 3
Wild Coast
After an early breakfast we drive and then hike to a number of waterfalls including one that falls spectacularly from the cliffs directly into the Indian Ocean. We drive through a tea estate to view the smaller waterfalls before we descend the rugged and picturesque escarpment.
Arriving at a local homestead we leave the vehicle to continue on foot through spectacular countryside. Walk on the very edge of the continent overlooking the deep blue ocean, watch the arrival of distant swells as they explode on the shoreline sending plumes of bright white spray 30 meters or more into the salt laden sea air.
This is a coastal wonderland, hiking over tinkling streams and pristine pools through rolling grassland, above precipitous cliffs. On reaching the waterfall we admire the views and unpack a delicious picnic before returning along the path to our vehicle and the chalet for a well-deserved meal and a good night’s rest.
Overnight Wild Coast, chalet/cottage, picnic lunch, dinner, bed and breakfast
Day 4, Night 4
Wild Coast south to Wild Coast north
We wake early for a hearty breakfast before packing up and checking out on our way out we stop along the way in the forest for a walk, we view the plants life and keep an eye out for the rich birdlife, identify some of the more prominent trees as well as some of the epiphytes that grow on the branches of these tall trees, ferns and tree orchids clinging to life amongst the mosses that cover the tree limbs.
Leaving the reserve behind we continue inland over tracks and roads with little or no indication about where to go, driving right here through the very heart of the Wild Coast.
After negotiating our way through the people, animals and potholes and arrive at the tranquil setting of our overnight accommodation set right on the beach between steep cliffs. The tranquil setting of our lodge hugging the steep, rolling grasslands as it overlooks its own boulder strewn beach. The lodge offers clear views of the cliff faces stretching out on either side as they loom over crashing waves that end their journey on this rugged coast of Africa.
Here there are spectacular sights such as the Hole-in-the-Wall and cliff top drives and walks so precipitous they will take your breath away as you search for Dolphins in the surf line far below while greeting the colourful friendly people as they go about their daily lives.
We check in and settle into our comfortable rooms in this rustic lodge before we meet for dinner.
Overnight Wild Coast, lunch, dinner, bed and breakfast
Day 5, Night 5
Wild Coast north to Amathole Mountain
We wake early to catch the Hole-in-the-Wall in the morning light and return to the lodge for breakfast, before checking out and once again heading into the hills, the Lullies, as they are called by the local Xhosa.
We travel through the countryside along rugged tracks as we make our way along the back roads to the Amathole Mountain.
We stop for lunch en route and after a long day in the saddle we check into our retreat in the Amathole Mountain. This is an area of deep shade forest, tinkling streams and gossamer waterfalls that grace the spectacular mountain slopes.
Overnight mountain retreat, lunch, dinner, bed and breakfast
Day 6
Amathole Mountain to Port Elizabeth
After breakfast we check out and explore the village that offers shopping opportunities at quaint Hippy colonies, an eco-shrine and labyrinth to nurture your esoterically well-being and displays of well-crafted pottery and other art.
